Insulin resistance

Insulin resistance is the condition when a normal concentration of insulin in the blood stream does not ensure a normal biological response anymore. Insulin resistance increases your risk of heart disease as well as diabetes.

The nutritional goals should include the following:

  • Increase insulin sensitivity through weigthloss which will also prevent the over-production of insulin that can cause hyperinsulinemia
  • Improve total cholesterol levels (increase HDL, decrease LDL and decrease TG levels)
